Asparagus Gratine: The Asparagus Way Into The German's Heart

Image
For Germans the  Spargelzeit , or the white asparagus season, is an eagerly anticipated sign of spring. Depending on the weather, the season for asparagus begins some time in April and lasts until St. John the Baptist’s feast day June 24, and during this time the country is gripped by ‘Asparagus Fever’. From seasonal asparagus dishes to the white asparagus queen award - there's quite a bit of the history that goes back as far as the Greek and Romans... "Asparagus Gratine" seasonal dish at the Knochenhauer restaurant in Hildesheim, Lower Saxony: served with the potato pancake, ham and Hollandaise sauce. Having spent quite some time in Germany during the pick of the season, I've learned a lot about the history and tradition of the white asparagus season. Read here to find out why Germans call white asparagus "white gold".

French Riviera Is More Than Cannes Film Festival

Cannes Film Festival 2013: Red Carpet Diary

Image
The South of France is a truly magic place, especially the towns of Province and French Riviera like  Cannes , St. Tropez, Antibes, and Nice. One can even count Monaco as 'part' of the south of France, because it's only half an hour away from Nice by car and requires no 'hassle' to enter. But while some of the towns in the Southern France are not as wide known, almost everyone, if not knows, then at least has heard about the town of Cannes. Most of this 'fame' is thanks to the  Cannes Film Festival , which has been taking place each month of May for sixty-six years. This year, from May 15th to 26th Cannes has become once again THE spring destination for both film fans, filmmakers and film stars...

From Boating To Biking: Spain Knows It Better

Image
I have two visual weaknesses - prints of cats and bikes. If I see a tee with a graphic design of a cat on it, I want to buy. If I see pants with a bike graphics print all over it - I want to get it. Bikes and cats are my weaknesses. Thus, there's a reason why I would take a notice of these sandals. I'm definitely loving these Menorquinas Bicycle Ivory by CASTELL.

My New Favorite Spring Nail Polish

Image
Talking about the nail polish. It's either very right or very wrong, with nothing in between, because no one wants to wear a mediocre polish. Every season - as with anything - a woman shops for both the seasonal nail polish and/or for a classic one that is always in style, like Essie's   "Sugar Daddy" and Revlon's "Red" . While some colors come and go - like the neon colors, the classic ones are always in style, but they can bore you to death if you keep on using only them, so you mix it up, especially when it comes to the summer, when not only both toes and nails are exposed, but also because it's summer - one goes for more color in the summer. And this season around, I felt like I want to add some dark pink nail polish to my home collection. I've tried all kinds of pink shades to find the one that would give me a good mood. I think I tried all the brands until I found the one that works for me.

J. Crew Wants You...And You Want Them Too

I can't go to this event, but you can! But why would I be talking about J. Crew?

One Day At The Fashion Institute of Technology, NYC

Image
Yesterday was my last class of the Spring semester at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), and until July, I'll be only visiting this place for the events, not the school. I'm actually looking forward to this summer schooling at FIT, and how could I not like coming to a place that looks, feels, smells and tastes like fashion and creativity?  And on my last day, I've decided to capture the 'atmosphere' of FIT - to show the many ways the students dress at FIT - the future faces of the fashion runaways:

Lady in Red

Image
RED COLOR IS A STATEMENT. It doesn't become everyone, but it does add the fearceness to a woman, because only some women are brave enough to wear the red, especially when it comes to the footwear.

The King of Them All: The Classic Converse, With A Twist

Image
No matter how many times you might have tried sneakers from another brand, nothing is as classy and timeless as the classic Converse. This is, definitely, on my 'to buy' list for the summer, as my old Converse are about to die on me... The All Star all white with just a hint of color - blue and red lines - and a logo are the way to go if you want your sneakers to be always in style. The rest of the styles, colors and with and/or without laces come and go... Make a right choice, shop now  - don't forget, the summer is around the corner! But if you ask me, these are my favorite from Converse classic collection:

Affordable Art

I'm a bit sucker for the contemporary art. I try to never miss a contemporary art show, and in the last few months I've truly over-indulged on the New York art scene .

The Best Anti-Cellulite Commercial EVER: Why We Worry?

Image
I never ever used any cellulite treatments, so I don't even know what's out there to address the cellulite 'problem' except for hearing that there are some kind of magic spandex 'body suits' for various parts of the body, which women wear under their dresses to look slimmer and cellulite-free. However, I have never seen them up close and personal, or worn them for that matter. I don't even know if any of the lady friends I have wear them. I just know I don't wear them. But according to this ad by Vichy, which, by the way, is great: women are very concerned about their cellulites: And to tell you the truth - with a great assurance - men are less likely to notice it [cellulite] on the women they like than the women would on themselves. I doubt that men even have the world 'cellulite' in their conversational vocabulary. Have ever you ever heard a guy talking to a guy about the cellulite: "Hey, listen, I was looking at my thigh cellulite

Tramando from Argentina: Discovering A Local Brand

Image
Last December was my first time traveling to the South America. It was my first time visiting Argentina, and while I was in Buenos Aires, I couldn't help myself from checking out their local fashion scene. I learned that Argentina, for the most part, does not allow too many of the international design houses to be present in the country, but rather it supports the local talents. The international fashion names only exist at the luxury shopping centers and only in the big cities, but when it comes to the shopping areas like Soho and West Village in New York City, all the stores are the Argentinian fashion brands, which, by the way, is not a bad thing for the tourists because it's much more interesting for us to discover the local brands rather than shop the ones we have at home. This is how I've discovered the Argentinian fashion brand Tramando .

The Red Temptation: Nordic + Bauhaus + Constructivism

Image
The latest cool creation from Acne, one of the Stockholm's natives I really like.  Acne often combines the European minimalism and simplicity - the Nordic style [think German Bauhaus , Russian Constructivism ) - with the vibrant colors that usually define the Italian high fashion style.
