Daphne Guinness: Her, Herself and Her Masters...
The other day I attended a private tour of Daphne Guinness personal wardrobe exhibition at F.I.T. (Fashion Institute of Technology) in New York City, organized by a good friend of mine - Stephan Rabimov, founder and Editor-in-Chief for Depesha Magazine. [I'd say - if you have a chance to see it, SEE it! It will blow your mind away!]
A muse to many great designers, Guinness has been always THE person to see and be seen with in the high society of New York City. Her personal style - [not to mention her personal life that has been many time recorded in the column PAGE SIX of the New York Post] - has been mesmerizing many people for years.
She can spot a true creative mind long before anyone else does. She dresses like no one ever could. She always stands out. Her presence is a show on its own. She always takes a note of the talented - [and extraordinary] - designers long before they even become famous. This is how she started buying designs of Alexander McQueen, long before he went to become a star. At some point, one of her friends told her: "Listen, you've been collecting these clothes and accessories by Alexander McQueen, it's time you actually meet the guy..." McQueen was a young Brit back then, not really yet known to the world...Later they established a very loving friendship of a master-muse kind of way...
As my friends and I were browsing through her collection at F.I.T., I couldn't take my eyes of the designs she ACTUALLY owns, it's like she needs her personal gallery and/or a museum to showcase them ALL...I couldn't believe that ONE woman can have not only so many extraordinary, one of a kind, designs, but that she actually has a great taste in picking up something that is worthy a museum exhibition of its own...She is a true fashionista - in the very true to the core meaning of the word, and not just what they now call a fashionista...
