A Queer History of Fashion: From the Closet to the Catwalk

Image
Marlene Dietrich's tuxedo in "Morocco" has caused quite a stir in Hollywood and across the art community, as one of the first women in film and in real life to prefer trousers to the conventional women style of skirts and dresses. Dietrich's tuxedo later inspired Yves Saint Lauren to design his Le Smoking collection. The current exhibition at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York "A Queer History of Fashion: From the Closet to the Catwalk" explores the LGBTQ community contribution to fashion from the 18th-century England to the present-day America. It is the first museum exhibition to explore in depth the significant contributions to fashion made by LGBTQ individuals over the past 300 years.  Long before the macho street style of Castro district in San Francisco came about, there were  Molly and Garçonne  gay fashion styles that were the first fashion trends among the members of the 18th and 19th Century of LGBTQ community. My New Choice For The Spring/Summer Scent

Image
One of my new scent choices for the Spring and Summer this year is Chanel "Chance". It proudly joined my scent hall of fame this week. The other ones that I'm liking right now - [and in the case of  Stella McCartney's "Stella"  - I've been one of the very first users of it from 2005 and on] are:  Dior's J'adore Eau de Parfum. You can get it here . Marc Jacob's Dot. You can get it here . Hugo Boss Nuit. It does not sell in Sephora - I bought it at the Duty Free in Frankfurt last year, but you can get it here . And I have a strong feeling that I would have to share it with Chester - [my Scottish Fold]:

What Do You Wear To Bed? She Was Once Asked

"Just a few drops of N°5..." We may never know when she said the phrase for the first time... Do you?

Diana Vreeland: "Too much good taste can be boring"

"Fashion must be the intoxicating release from the banality of the world" One word for you - if you haven't seen this documentary yet, you are not a true fashionista! "Is there anything beyond fashion?"

Chanel Meets Brad Pitt: Can It Get Any More Hotter?

It's getting hot in here... There are a few people out there, who are still not sure how to feel about the recent Chanel ad that features Brad Pitt.

A Girl Should Be Two Things

Image
A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous. There's absolutely nothing not to adore this woman for. She founded one of the oldest and most prominent fashion houses in the world. She defined what classic, proper femininity is. She made clothes, accessories, footwear and perfume that made a woman, a girl - a true lady. She was the muse of many poets, writers and the inspiration to many designers to come - for decades to come. And on top of that - she was one witty woman with a lot of simple, but deep truth to what she was saying...

Karl or NOT Karl?

Image
I love when I can just stop by a store to look for one thing - [and for someone else...] - and leave the store with a few new finds that I did not expect to get at all...For myself . I thought I spotted Karl Largerfeld 's collaboration with H&M store the other day. I was quite surprised to stumble over what looked like VERY KARL LAGERFIELD - VERY CHANEL clothes, shoes and accessories at an H&M store on Fifth Avenue . I thought I could recognize his signature style, but it wasn't. Although, it did look like HIM... Oh la la...

Nail Shade Parade: Chanel Presents Fall 2011/Winter 2012 Shades

Image
There are rare ads that catch our attention these days, but there are a few people who are doing it just about right...Not to mention the fact that with all the nail shades out there, you'd like to know what's gonna be the "IT" color of the season... This is why, when I shop for a nail color/shade, depending on a country where I shop, I either do my petite research investigation to see what's happening and/or I ask a store consultant. In Milan last August, at the Kiki beauty shop I was suggested to get the shades of bright blue and green, and I did -and they are making me very happy when I wear those 'very Milano' shades - [as I was told] - and that match the latest runaway's colors of the likes of Armani, Gucci and Versace... So, when I saw this ad by Chanel, I thought I'd share...
